My
Yolo
Moment:
Embracing
the
Fear
of
the
Unknown
Yolo,
an
acronym
for
"You
Only
Live
Once,"
has
become
a
popular
phrase
amongst
the
younger
generation
to
encourage
living
in
the
present
moment
and
seizing
opportunities.
Yet,
it
wasn't
until
recently
that
I
truly
understood
the
power
behind
it.
I've
always
been
a
planner,
a
person
who
likes
to
know
what's
coming
next
and
prepare
accordingly.
However,
this
mentality
limited
me
from
stepping
outside
of
my
comfort
zone
and
taking
risks.
To
break
this
pattern,
I
decided
to
embrace
the
Yolo
mentality
and
live
more
fearlessly.
The
first
step
in
my
Yolo
journey
was
booking
a
solo
trip
abroad.
I'd
never
traveled
alone
before
and
the
thought
of
being
in
a
foreign
country
without
any
familiar
faces
terrified
me.
But,
I
reminded
myself
that
this
was
a
once
in
a
lifetime
opportunity
to
explore
a
new
culture
and
connect
with
myself.
During
the
trip,
I
met
new
people,
tried
new
foods,
and
gained
a
new
perspective
on
life.
I

that
being
uncomfortable
was
not
always
a
bad
thing,
and
sometimes
the
greatest
growth
occurs
on
the
other
side
of
fear.
Upon
returning
home,
I
continued
to
incorporate
the
Yolo
mindset
into
my
daily
life.
I
started
saying
"yes"
to
invitations
and
opportunities
that
previously
scared
me,
such
as
public
speaking
or
trying
a
new
hobby.
Each
experience
allowed
me
to
learn
more
about
myself
and
the
world
around
me.
Of
course,
living
fearlessly
does
not
guarantee
a
perfect
outcome.
There
were
moments
where
things
didn't
go
as
planned
or
mistakes
were
made.
However,
those
moments
also
presented
opportunities
for
growth
and
learning.
The
Yolo
mentality
has
taught
me
to
appreciate
the
present
moment
and
embrace
the
fear
of
the
unknown.
It
has
allowed
me
to
step
outside
of
my
comfort
zone
and
live
fully.
I
encourage
others
to
adopt
this
mindset
and
take
risks
in
their
own
lives.
Because
after
all,
we
only
live
once.
